Vacation for hourly employees
How are the holiday entitlements of hourly wage employees regulated and compensated?

Hourly wage jobs are often very flexible in terms of time. Only the actual hours worked are compensated. But what is the regulation regarding holidays for hourly employees?
Entitlement to Holidays
According to the law, employees are entitled to at least four weeks of holiday. This also applies to hourly employees. Paid holidays, meaning continued payment of wages during holidays, are mandatory.
Compensation of Holidays via Wage Supplement
Administratively, it can be complex and complicated to calculate the correct wage continuation during holidays for irregular assignments. Therefore, many companies opt for the ongoing payment of holidays via a holiday supplement instead of wage continuation during the holidays. The following holiday allowances apply:
4 weeks of holidays: 8.33%
5 weeks of holidays: 10.64%
The supplements must be shown separately on the payroll statement. Otherwise, the holidays are not considered as paid out. Statements like "including holidays" are not sufficient.
