In 2018, the Federal Tax Administration collected 22'586 million CHF through direct federal taxes. This represents an increase of 7.2% compared to 2017. Just over half of this is paid by natural persons. This is shown in the publication "Tax Statistics 2018" released by the FTA on July 4.

In 2018, the Confederation earned 22.58 billion CHF from direct federal tax. This means that the revenue increased by 7.2% compared to the previous year's 21.07 billion CHF. Revenue from the direct federal tax increased significantly by 36.1% in the canton of Fribourg. However, cantons like Schaffhausen or Glarus had to cope with less tax substrate.

The burden of revenue from the direct federal tax is distributed approximately equally between natural and legal persons across Switzerland, with natural persons contributing slightly more (as of 2015). However, this varies significantly from canton to canton. While in the canton of Obwalden legal persons pay almost 80% of the share of cantonal revenues from the direct federal tax, in Zug they pay only about 27%.
